Ananda in The Himalayas,Uttarakhand

Ananda in the Himalayas is situated in Narendra Nagar, Uttarakhand. It is a luxury destination spa. This is an estate set in a 100-acre (40 ha) Himalayan Mountain. This place is surrounded by sal forests, and overseeing the river Ganges. This place is very close to the towns of Rishikesh and Muni Ki Reti. This spa was established in the year 2000. This was thefirst destination spa opened in India. Here in Ananda, the main focus is on Yoga and Ayurveda practices. The Yoga and the other practices are combined with international spa therapies as well. This property includes the royal palace of Narendra Nagar and is owned by Maharaja of Tehri Garhwal (an Indian princely state). This place also includes the restored Viceregal Palace which was added to the palace in 1910–11 by the Maharaja for an expected visit of the Viceroy of India.

The Palace Estate, Narendra Nagar Tehri - Garhwal, Uttarakhand - 249175, INDIA

With the history of this place a whole lot of drama and pathos are associated. The vice regal suite of the Ananda destination spa is situated in the palace owned by the Shah family which is also the residence of the princely state. Narendrangar is a neat town, and the market of the place is also very charming. The market has a wide central road. The location serves as the perfect destination as the far away hills are visible from that place. Ma Anandmayi is a well-known spiritual guide also visits the palace very often. She gives very wise teaching in a very gentle way that’s the reason she is so popular around the world. Her spiritual energy is tucked away in the corner of the Viceregal terrace from there the valley is visible. There were also stands of the close link of the Maharaja with the history of spiritual India. The father of the current Maharaja Manabendra Shah took the charge from his father. But the situation has changed drastically after India got independence and after that the princely roles were not there anymore that’s why the family turned to politics in order to ensure that their roots are still alive.

Mythology

Anendeavour into the Himalayamountains is more than a mere journey. It is also called as “yatra” (a pilgrimage). In the Pre-Vedic era, the pilgrimage does not hold much of the importance in the areas of Garhwal and Kumaon. This place belongs to the Lord Shiva, this land is charged with “Shakti” the power and energy of Goddess Parvati. Garhwal and Kumaon together forms the sizable wedge in the central Himalaya area which joins the two countries India and Nepal

Today, Garhwal has become a land of myth and legend, as every stone of the place says a different story. In the vedas, there has been found the historical reference of the place. There is specific mention of the mountains also exists in the Mahabharata, dated around 1000 BC. In the Mahabharata epic there is also mention of this region being the home of the Kirata, Puolinda and Tangara tribes.

The Region

Haridwar

It is believed that Gods have left their footprints on the land of Haridwar which has its mark on the believe system of every Hindu. It is also believed that every person will follow their own holy path. The significance of Haridwar is across the country. Haridwar is also considered as the gateway to the gods.

The holiest river Ganga flows through this sacred city. It has actually been sanctified by the powerful trinity of Hindu mythology- Lord Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva

With time Haridwar has become very important as the ever-refreshing mystic venue which is known for the purification of the mind, body and soul. It has gained more impetus.Today it can be said that it manifests itself in two great events that take place here – the memorable Kumbh Mela and the Ardh Kumbh Mela. Kumbh mela held at an interval of 12 years and Ardh Kumbh held once every 6 years.

It can be also said that this place is beyond the mystic aura and mythology. Haridwar has another magic spell on the visitors. Haridwar is considered as one of the oldest living cities as it finds its footprints in the ancient India scriptures.

Haridwar is one of the first towns where river Ganga emerges from the mountains to touch the plains. Every evening, the Ghats (places built on the banks of the river for the holy dip in the river Ganga) look breathtakingly beautiful as thousands of diyas (earthen lamps) and marigold flowers illuminate the holy waters at the time of the Ganga Aarti. Ganga Aarti is a much-awaited daily ritual, where the river Ganga is propitiated for all the bounty that she bestows on the Indian plains.

Rishikesh

In the foothills of the Garhwal region, the town of Rishikesh is situated. It is located 1160 feet above sea level. This town is the gateway to the upper Garhwal region and is also the starting point to the Char Dham. Char Dham is four famous pilgrim centers namely Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamnotri. It is believed since ages at this place people can actually attain salvation through meditation.

River Ganga is worshipped in the town as it flows through the town of Rishikesh. Rishikesh is actually has long been a spiritual centre for the devotees. The town has a number of ashrams. Some of the ashrams situated in the town are actually very famous around the globe as centres of philosophical studies, yoga and meditation. In the first week of February, an international ‘Yoga Week’ is organized in the town every year.

Holistic living is considered as the way of life in the ancient India. It is a very good sign that people have understood the balance of the nature, the ways of the universe and also the other elements that are associated with the well-being of the people and can also affect the physical health and mental well-being of the people. In ancient India, holistic living was a way of life. It is believed that once a person experiences the internal harmony then only, they will be at peace with their surroundings. As the world has progressed our lives has also changed with time. But the belief system, principles and other things has not left the people.

Philosophy

This is the philosophy behind the establishment of Ananda – In the Himalayas into being. In today’s time where people do not have time for anything, this place is like a retreat to the people to find the holistic remedies. It will also help rejuvenate locales. At Ananda, they have tried to recreate the synergy between mind, body and intellect. They are making the synergy through the natural Himalayan locales and also through the proximity to the mountains and the river as well. They have tried to mix the ancient process and philosophies of Ayurveda, Yoga and Vedanta in order to rejuvenate the people in association with the contemporary international therapies which helps to enhance and augment the original.

It is believed at Ananda that each of the individual is unique. Therefore, the programs and experiences offered by Ananda is also unique. As it is believed that the individual needs and their requirements should be assessed beforehand, as it will help to offer better programs to the individuals. These requirements are collected through consultation with the present personal consultants of Ayurveda and wellness. This is a very intrinsic thing that helps to assist the individual on his/her private journey in order to understand the self in a better way.
