Shri Yogiji Maharaj's opportunity to achieve a temple complex in Delhi contributed to the growth of Swaminarayan Akshardham. When he was working as the spiritual head of Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha, best known as BAPS, he had this idea in 1968. However, it was Pramukh Swami Maharaj, his successor and the fifth spiritual guru in line after Bhagwan Swaminarayan, who began construction on the temple. The Delhi Development Authority provided 60 acres of land and the Uttar Pradesh Government provided 30 acres for the construction of this temple. The project began in 2000 and was completed in less than five years. Akshardham Temple, which stands on the banks of the Yamuna River, was first opened to the public on November 6, 2005. In the presence of prominent personalities such as Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, L.K. Advani, B.L. Joshi, and Dr. Manmohan Singh, the then Prime Minister of India, Pramukh Swami Maharaj officially launched the temple. This spiritual site was built by BAPS and is one of the largest temples in Delhi and India. The temple was built with the help of over 8000 volunteers who put in over 300,000,000 volunteer hours.
